Income is anything you receive in cash or in-kind that can be used to meet your needs for food or shelter. In-kind income is not cash, but is actually food or shelter, or something other than cash that can be used to obtain food or shelter. Income can be earned or unearned.

NOTE: Effective January 1, 2010, in-kind support and maintenance (food or shelter) will not be countable as income when determining eligibility for Medicare Part D Extra Help.
