U.S. Postal Service provides temporary locations for Social
Security and SSI checks for Hurricane Katrina and Rita Victims

LAKE CHARLES LA – The U.S. Postal Service and the Social Security Administration have again established temporary, alternative locations for the distribution of Social Security checks to Southwestern Louisiana residents who are unable to receive regular mail delivery service.

The Postal Service announced today that Social Security and SSI checks scheduled for issuance on October 1st and October 3rd for Delcambre customers can be picked up at the Abbeville Post Office located on HWY 14 Bypass. SSI checks can be picked up on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1, during the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Social Security checks will be distributed on Monday, Oct. 3 and Tuesday, Oct. 4. There will be no check distribution on Sunday, October 2nd at any postal location.

SSI CHECKS

For Cameron Parish customers, SSI checks can be picked up at the Jennings Post Office, 106 S. Broadway beginning Friday, Sep. 30, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Social Security checks can be picked up beginning Monday, Oct. 3 between the same times.

Westlake, Sulphur, Vinton, Dequincy and Starks customers can pick up their SSI checks on Friday, Sep. 30 and Sat., Oct. 1, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at their regular post office. Customers from these communities that have evacuated the area can pick up their SSI checks at the Deridder Post Office, 110 E 4th St., Oct. 3-6, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

SSI checks for Lake Charles customers can be picked up on Friday, Sep. 30 and Sat., Oct. 1 at the Lake Charles Main Post Office, 921 Moss St. between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Evacuated Lake Charles residents can pick up their checks at the Jennings Post Office, 106 S. Broadway, from Oct. 3 to Oct. 6, 10 a.m.-3p.m.

Iowa residents can pick up their SSI checks at the Iowa Post Office on Friday, Sep. 30 and Sat. Oct. 1, and at the Jennings Post Office from Oct. 3-6, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION CHECKS

For Cameron Parish residents, Social Security checks dated for delivery on Oct. 3, 2005, will available for pickup at the Jennings Post Office on Oct. 3-4.

For Calcasieu Parish residents, Social Security checks dated for delivery for Oct. 3, will be available at the home towns of Westlake, Sulphur, Vinton, Dequincy and Starks on Oct.3-4, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Residents of these communities that have evacuated elsewhere, may pick up their Social Security checks at the Deridder Post Office beginning Oct. 5.

For Social Security checks for customers currently residing in Lake Charles, the Postal Service will deliver SSA checks at the Lake Charles Post Office on Oct. 3 and 4. Evacuated Lake Charles residents will be able to receive their checks at the Jennings Post Office beginning Oct. 5.

Iowa residents can pick up their SSA checks at the Iowa Post Office Oct. 3-6 at the Jennings Post Office, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
