Detailed Directions to SSA Headquarters
map of Baltimore area
Baltimore is encircled by a "beltway" which is Interstate 695. SSA is on the west side of the Beltway, at Exit 17, Security Blvd.

map of Woodlawn area

Security Blvd. is shown on this map as Route 122, north of Interstate 70.

Exit the Beltway on Security Blvd. The exit will split, one direction to the West (the wrong way!) and one to the East (the right way!). If you go the wrong way you will see Security Square Mall. If you go the right way, you will soon see SSA.

The Social Security Administration is on the south side of Security Blvd. (the odd-numbered side of the street), between Woodlawn Drive and Gwynn Oak. Perimeter Dr. is our internal road. The main building (the Altmeyer Building) is nine-stories tall, and the campus occupies all of the area within Perimeter Dr.

front of SSA Headquarters building
This is the Altmeyer Building, looking west. This is the front entrance to the facility. You cannot park in the entrance-way. You must park on one of the outlying roads and walk to the entrance. There is a Guard Desk just inside the door. At the Guard Desk you arrange for a parking permit for your vehicle and to obtain an entrance pass into the facility. You will need to phone our office (at 58107) and we will come down and sign you in and escort you to the History Archives. (This requires a prior appointment for non-SSA researchers.)
