Quiz #8 - Answer

Answer: B: 1954.

On September 1, 1954 the law was amended to extend Social Security to more self-employed workers and to protect the benefit rights of disabled persons through a "disability freeze" provision. The disability freeze was a precursor to cash disability benefits, which were added to the program in 1956.
