In 25 states, disabled beneficiaries make up 3 to 3.9 percent of the population, which is in line with the 3.4 percent average for the entire United States. As previously mentioned in the main text, disabled beneficiaries represented less than 3 percent of the state population in 14 states. The remaining 12 states had disabled beneficiary populations of over 4 percent. Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Tennessee had disabled beneficiaries accounting for 4 to 4.9 percent of their populations.
