Disabled Beneficiaries Receiving Social Security, SSI, or Both

Chart 12. Social Security and SSI beneficiaries aged 18–64 receiving benefits on the basis of disability, December 2008

In December 2008, over 10.6 million people aged 18–64 received benefits on the basis of disability. More than 61 percent (6.6 million) received benefits from the Social Security program only, 28 percent (3.0 million) received benefits from the Supplemental Security Income program (SSI) only, and about 12 percent (1.3 million) received benefits from both programs.
