Social Security ended fiscal year (FY) 2009 with 722,822 hearings pending compared to 760,813 hearings pending at the start of the year, a reduction of more than 37,000 cases.
Social Security's FY 2009 budget assumed there would be 754,600 hearings pending at the end of the fiscal year.
The number of pending hearings peaked in December, 2008 with 768,540 cases. April, 2009 is the point where the number of pending hearings dropped below 760,000 to 756,107.
