Hiring at the Social Security Administration:
Linking Candidates with Disabilities to SSA Jobs

SSA is committed to hiring individuals with disabilities into its workforce, including SSA Ticket Holders and students and veterans with disabilities.  SSA partners are directed to work closely with local, regional and component staffs at the ground level for the recruitment and hiring process at SSA.

Additional Information

This page is provided to give you an overview of the initiative along with detailed resources and documents to help your organization in providing qualified candidates with disabilities, including Ticket Holders, to SSA for consideration.

Contact SSA for More Information:

SSA’s Selective Placement Program assists qualified individuals with disabilities in obtaining non-competitive employment under the federal government’s Schedule A Excepted Service appointing authority. This appointing authority can be extended to individuals with mental retardation, severe physical disabilities, or psychiatric disabilities. Regional and component Selective Placement Coordinators can answer your questions regarding SSA hiring. Visit the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM)  website at  http://apps.opm.gov/sppc_directory/searchlist.cfm#S for a list of the Regional and component Selective Placement Coordinators.

As SSA is a small portion of a broader Federal Government hiring initiative, Employment Networks, Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies, and other employment service providers are key partners in bringing talented and available candidates to SSA and all agencies. Thank you for getting involved and helping SSA reach its goal to increase diversity and opportunities for employment of people with disabilities at SSA locations across the nation.

You may also wish to seek employment through the competitive hiring process. Information concerning job opportunities may be obtained from the OPM web site at www.usajobs.gov , the SSA web site at www.ssa.gov/careers , or the state employment office. These same resources are available for those who do not meet the requirements for severe disability, but are still interested in employment at SSA.
