611.Does your employment condition affect a disability determination?

Your impairment must be the main reason you cannot work. You will not be found disabled as defined in §507.1 if you are physically and mentally able to do any of your past relevant work or adjust to other work that exists in significant numbers in the national economy.

We do not consider any of the following reasons for unemployment when we make a disability determination:

  1. Lack of work in local area;

  2. Lack of job openings for particular work;

  3. Your preferences for particular types of work;

  4. Hiring practices of employers;

  5. Cyclical economic conditions; or

  6. Your efforts to obtain employment.
