971.Are services performed by employees of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) covered by Social Security?

Work as an officer or employee of the government of the CNMI or any political subdivision or wholly owned instrumentality is covered as employment beginning October 1, 2012.

Service by a temporary or intermittent employee who is not covered by a CNMI retirement system is covered if performed on or after January 1, 1987.

However, work in the CNMI performed as a resident of the Republic of the Philippines under contract to work on a temporary basis as a nonresident alien is not covered.
