Federal Data Catalog Identifier: US-GOV-SSA-1547
The Disability Case Review is a post-effectuation quality review of ALJ disability hearing decisions. This dataset includes results from these case reviews for fiscal years (FY) 2009–2015. The data is at the national level. We show the agreement rate for favorable decisions and the agreement rate for unfavorable decisions. If additional studies are conducted, we will add the new data to this dataset.
As of 2019, SSA no longer conducts this review.
We included an analysis of the results of our review in our Annual Performance Reports. Learn more by viewing our Annual Performance Reports.
Data Dictionary
Fiscal Year (FY): A Federal Fiscal Year (FY) is the 12-month period that starts the Saturday after the last Friday of September and ends the last Friday of September. Most years our fiscal year workload reports contain 52 weeks since we include only full weeks, rather than cut off in the middle of a week. Every few years the reporting period is 53 weeks when we apply the end of week cutoff.
Agreement Rate of ALJ Favorable Decisions: The percentage of favorable cases in which the review found the ALJ decision was supported by a preponderance of the evidence.
Agreement Rate of ALJ Unfavorable Decisions: The percentage of unfavorable cases in which the review found the ALJ decision was supported by a preponderance of the evidence.
