Atlanta Region Area Web site!

The mission of this agency is to administer the national Social Security programs as prescribed by legislation in an equitable, effective, efficient, and caring manner. The Social Security programs that were established to protect Americans against the loss of income include retirement, survivor, and disability benefits, as well as health insurance coverage through the Medicare program.

Social Security is part of almost everyone's life. In one way or another- -whether assigning a Social Security number to a newborn infant or mailing a Social Security check to a retired worker - - Social Security touches the lives of more Americans than any other federal program. Social Security provides protection to more than 161 million workers and pays benefits to 58 million people.

The Atlanta Region fully supports the agency's mission and is committed to serving you, our client, with prompt, efficient service. The Atlanta Region serves over 13 million Social Security beneficiaries who receive over $14 billion each month. There are over 243 Social Security offices throughout the Atlanta Region who provide in-person or telephone service to our clients. In addition, the national telephone service sites (3 are located in this region) handle over 57 million calls a year.

The 37 Office of Hearings Operations (OHO) offices within our region handle the reconsideration and appeal cases. We also have 9 federally funded state Disability Determination Service units and a large Program Service Center to serve the public.

"...we hope this additional service on the Internet will assist us in meeting our commitment to World Class Service..."
