The Office of Retirement and Disability Policy is a principal advisor to the Commissioner on major policy issues. It serves as the agency's focal point for policy analysis and research, evaluation, and statistics. The Office of Research, Evaluation, and Statistics; and the Office of Research, Demonstration, and Employment Support operate under the Deputy Commissioner for Retirement and Disability Policy. More specifically:

  • The Office of Research, Demonstration, and Employment Support conducts research and analysis related to the Disability Insurance (DI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs and supports the employment of DI and SSI beneficiaries by administering employment support programs and developing agency policies on work incentives.
  • The Office of Research, Evaluation, and Statistics conducts research to study the effects of Social Security and SSI, and proposed changes in those programs, on individuals, the economy, and program solvency. It is also responsible for evaluating the effects of major new initiatives and is the agency's source for statistics on the Social Security and SSI programs and on the income of workers and beneficiaries.

Our team of analysts and researchers help shape the future of SSA programs. They are energetic, creative, intelligent people from a wide variety of backgrounds. They typically have a master's or doctoral degree or equivalent experience in economics, statistics, public administration, or a related field. Our staff also has knowledge of Social Security programs and data, strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent quantitative and critical reasoning skills, and the ability to think through complex policy issues.
