Actuarial Studies

Updated October 21, 2005
Introduction In fulfilling its mission of monitoring the current and future financial soundness of the Social Security program, SSA's Office of the Chief Actuary conducts extensive research. We evaluate short-term and long-term demographic and economic trends and analyze experience in mortality and morbidity rates. The results of much of this work are made available to the public through the publication of regular reports and special studies on many aspects of the Social Security system. The more extensive of these reports are published in a series of Actuarial Studies (below), while the briefer reports have appeared in a series of Actuarial Notes.

If you would like to be notified by email when new Actuarial Notes or Studies become available, please contact actuary@ssa.gov. If you have a visual impairment and have difficulty accessing any document, please contact actuary@ssa.gov. Some of the Studies are available in PDF format, for which you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader.
