2012.1What actions may the ALJ take after the hearing?

After the hearing, the ALJ usually issues a written decision based on all the evidence obtained, including your testimony and that of witnesses. The ALJ may also:

  1. Request additional evidence or information necessary to make a decision;

  2. Send the case with a recommended decision to the Appeals Council for decision (though this happens very infrequently); or

  3. Dismiss the request as described in §2008.

2012.2What notification is provided about the results?

All parties to the hearing are notified of the ALJ's action and the reasons for it in a written decision.
