Chapter: I-2-5
Subject: Obtaining Evidence
On June 1, 2000, SSA published final rules in the Federal Register (65 FR 34950) which clarified and expanded the list of acceptable medical sources in 20 CFR 404.1513(a) and 416.913(a). The rules were effective on July 3, 2000.
This transmittal revises and updates section I-2-5-1 to conform to the current rules and definitions in 20 CFR §§ 404.1502, 404.1513(a), 416.902, and 416.913(a).
Section I-2-5-1 (Evidence-General) is revised to update the definitions of “acceptable medical source,” “treating source,” “nonexamining source,” “nontreating source,” and “other sources” who provide evidence about a claimant's impairments. The list of acceptable medical sources is expanded consistent with 20 CFR 404.1513(a) and 416.913(a).
