Creating or Accessing Your Account

You can create a new personal my Social Security account or log in to an existing account by visiting Sign in or create an account.

If You Have Difficulties Creating Your Account

New accounts can only be created using ID.me or Login.gov. If you are unable to create your personal my Social Security account, contact your local Social Security office (appointment required). For Login.gov support please visit Login.gov or for ID.me support please visit ID.me Help Center.

If You Have Any Difficulties Accessing Your Account

If you already have an account and are experiencing difficulties with Login.gov, visit Login.gov/help or call 844-875-6446. For support with ID.me, visit the ID.me Help Center. Login.gov and ID.me can help you with the following:

  • Changing your password
  • Updating your email address
  • Modifying your phone number
  • Altering your authentication method
  • Enabling face or touch unlock
  • Completing identity proofing

Social Security can assist you with the following:

  • Blocking or unblocking electronic access to your account
  • Changing your email address for Social Security communications
  • Resetting your personal my Social Security account
  • Account recovery after multiple unsuccessful login attempts
