Honoring Veterans and their Families
Date:
Dear Colleague,
As we prepare to observe Veterans Day, we honor and thank all veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.
Many veterans understand their benefits but have questions about what is available for their families. For veterans receiving benefits, certain family members may qualify for dependent disability or retirement benefits based on the veteran's work, including their:
- Spouse.
- Divorced spouse.
- Minor children.
- Adult child disabled before age 22.
Payments to family members will not reduce the worker's benefit. Your clients can review benefits based on their own or their spouse's record by signing in to their personal my Social Security account.
Social Security also provides employment guidance for veterans with disabilities who receive benefits and are considering returning to work. They should review our publication Journey to Success: Employment Tools for Veterans with Disabilities.
To learn more about how we support veterans and their families, visit our Information for Military & Veterans webpage.
I encourage you to share this information with your clients, members, colleagues, affiliates, and other interested parties.
Sincerely,
Dawn Bystry
