[UPDATED] Direct Express Program Transitions to a New Financial Agent

We want to inform you of an important change to the Direct Express® program. The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service has selected Fifth Third Bank as the new financial agent for the Direct Express® program.
With this change, new Direct Express card enrollments with Fifth Third Bank will begin May 2026. For Social Security beneficiaries who are existing Direct Express cardholders, the transition of accounts to the new financial agent will begin later this year or early next year. Beneficiaries will receive advance notice of the transition of their accounts and should continue to use their Comerica-issued cards following transition until the card expires. It is important for beneficiaries to keep their contact information up to date to ensure they receive all communications.
