Employer Signature PIN
Social Security anticipates introducing an Employer Signature PIN for employers and third-party submitters filing wage reports electronically for the upcoming annual wage reporting season that starts December 2026. The Employer Signature PIN will be optionally available for Employers starting with the anticipated roll-out of Social Security’s Business Services Online updated authorization system.
No action is required now for employers.

Information on the new Employer Signature PIN, including formatting, check sum calculation, and examples is available in the EFW2 and EFW2c specifications. View Specifications for Filing Forms W-2 and W-2c for more information.
Why are we adding the PIN?
The Employer Signature PIN will be available to an organization’s administrator, who will provide it to individuals or third-party submitters that are authorized to report wages to SSA on behalf of the organization.
What is the benefit of the Employer Signature PIN?
Organizations may enhance the security of their wage submissions by selecting to use the Employer Signature PIN through the new BSO Authorization Process.
How will it work?
- Allows an Employer to electronically sign wage reports.
- A new Employer Signature PIN will be provided annually to coincide with the Tax Reporting Season.
- For 2026, the signature PIN will be an opt-in feature for employers.
- If an employer opts in, then both they, and any third-party submitters submitting wage reports on the employer’s behalf, will be required to include the Employer Signature PIN in the wage report for the Social Security Administration to process the wage report.
We will post more information as it becomes available.
